The S.H.I.E.L.D. MDX: the car for parents who want to look like super heroes as they take their kids to school, and who really want to show the curb at their local Starbucks who’s boss.
I first stumbled across !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! when I was casually browsing the used market in my area for other MDXs, and it definitely stood out. I think it looks properly badass in comparison to the other plebeian MDXs for sale. But, since I am uncultured and have not seen anything related to The Avengers , I thought these modifications were nothing more than some goodies added by the previous owner.
Further research showed that this was not the case. The modifications were actually done by Cinema Vehicle Services, as I discovered thanks to
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
by TFL Car. They painted the car matte black, blacked out all of the chrome, including the beak, bolted on fender flares originally meant for a Ford truck, and also added a brush guard and roof lights. Now, the legality of the roof lights seems questionable, but it might be allowed because the lights are yellow.
Perhaps the coolest modification is the 2.5-inch lift, new wheels, and off road tires. Of course, this probably means that the car drives terribly, as demonstrated by the
Defiance
Dodge Charger that

.
But, luckily for the cast and the potential buyer, the interior appears to be identical to the regular MDXs. This particular model is even the fully loaded Advance model, which means you get cool features like heated and cooled front seats, heated back seats, as well as adaptive cruise control and emergency braking, if the sensors can see past the brush guard.
Now, the biggest question with this particular MDX isn’t what the usual midsize crossover shoppers ask like, “How easy is it to get into the third row?” or “What gas mileage does this get?” It is, “Was this car really a movie star?” Simply looking at its CarFax seems to support its case.
This MDX was initially purchased from AutoNation Acura in Torrance, California, right in Los Angeles county. It was registered on April 7 th , 2011 as a corporate fleet vehicle. It lived its life in Southern California until it was auctioned off in October of 2013 with an insane 234 miles. 234 miles in two years, and when it was auctioned, it was listed as a manufacturer vehicle. Everything is looking good so far.
However, the most important piece of evidence is found outside of the CarFax. Interestingly, it’s found in the other images of the vehicle. It’s this picture of Samuel L. Jackson standing next to the MDX, and yes, the serial number on the side of the car matches.
Of course, this whole car could be a replica, but the evidence definitely stacks up in its favor. And even if it is a fraud, you can still buy the most badass, extremely low mileage MDX, and crawl over the snow banks in the school parking lot while impressing the other parents with stories of Samuel L. Jackson.

That is 100% a nice price. A 2011 MDX with only 7000 miles would probably retail for close to that price even without being a custom movie car.
At least here in Nebraska, those roof lights are legal

That’s actually pretty badass. Reminds me of a Ford Explorer Interceptor.

That MDX is less than what my dad paid for his 4Runner. I mean, a 4Runner is a 4Runner, but that MDX is, well, that .

Huh, good to know about the lights and price. If I had $34,000 to drop, I would totally buy it!

I actually love that show. It would be pretty neat to own a piece of it. Not sure if I’m into the whole Acura thing though ;)

When my dad was used car shopping, I found a SHIELD Acura TL with 6k miles for $24k, a bit over my dad’s budget. He passed as he thought it would be several months until he got something but ended up getting a fantastic deal on a base 2014 Optima. Still wish he’d gotten the Acura...

If this was at CarMax in June of 2015, my girlfriend would have this instead of a Forester. Nice price

That’s awesome! I knew they made the SHIELD TL’s too, and I was wondering if they were out in the market like the MDXs. I wonder how many are floating around out there.

I don’t know but it was a steal and a half. A 3 year old Acura with 6k miles for about 1/2 the list price, just because it was matte black and had a bull bar.

I guess I have a thing for boring crossovers! I currently drive this, but it was passed down from my dad. I do really like it though, and it’s still going strong with 219,000 miles. You can take away my Oppo card at any time haha!

Yeah, that’s insane! I remember seeing TLs listed for over $30,000 with twice or three times the mileage. The best part about the SHEILD TLs is the only mechanical change is the added bull bar. The rest of the changes are only paint, so it should drive the same as the other TLs. And it looks way more badass.

I’d never take anyone’s Oppo card away. You love that thing and that makes it Jalop AF.

with as many times it changed hands, you could knock the price down a lil bit too

In my book, anything with over 200K miles is automatically extremely Jalop.

Hey, I’ll take it haha! I’m trying to get it to 239,000 miles to say it drove to the moon, but we’ll see how that goes.

Indeed! My dad’s V70 T5 is at 213K, I’m planning on getting him one of these once he gets up to 239K, probably within a year or two.

That’s a good comparison. I don’t know which one I’d take (or a similarly equipped Explorer Sport, with a similar blacked out package)
